11 million Deaths Globally
Globally, there are at least 11 million deaths throughout the world every year and it is estimated that 49 million people are affected by sepsis.
Sepsis is a life-threatening condition and can affect any age and can happen quickly, so it is essential to know the main symptoms.
Symptoms
During Sepsis Awareness Month it is essential to know the six main symptoms to look out for although they may be different in some people according to the Sepsis Trust https://sepsistrust.org/
S – slurred speech or confusion
E – extreme pain in muscles and joints
P – passing no urine in a day
S – severe breathlessness
I – people saying “it feels like I’m going to die”
S – skin that’s mottled, discoloured or very pale
Resilient Medical Student
Lily McGarry who was an inspiring and resilient triathlete lost all her limbs due to sepsis. She is a medical student at Cardiff University and is from Jersey. She is now recovering and is positive and determined for the future.
